Lead Poisoning Prevention

Preventing Childhood Lead Exposure

The Coastal Healthy Communities Coalition (CHCC) works in southern Maine to prevent childhood lead poisoning by educating families, landlords, and property managers, offering free home lead-dust wipe tests, and providing resources to help create safe, healthy living environments in the communities we serve.

CHCC works directly with homeowners, renters, landlords, property managers, and community partners in Biddeford and Saco to promote lead poisoning prevention. The organization distributes educational materials from the Maine Department of Health and Human Services, runs campaigns to raise awareness about the health risks of lead dust, and provides guidance on how to request a free home test. In partnership with Head Start and Maine Families in York County, CHCC also conducts facilitated in-home lead dust wipe tests.
